A New Cabinet & Work Room Design Plan

I spend a lot of time in my workroom, making passport covers and DIY projects. It is usually always messy so I keep the door shut most of the time so I don’t really spend much time making it a place that everything is designed to fit my style.  Through talking with a friend, I changed my mindset and really want to make it a place I love to be in. I like it right now because I feel very fortunate to have the space I do but I would prefer to love where I spend most of my time as well as make it a place that inspires me! I really honed in on a few colors and a direction I want to go in my workroom instead of making it just a smorgasbord of items. I have always had the mindset that most of it will be white, but I’ve added in the colors copper and olive green to have pops of color and cohesion! These updates will take some time but I have already made a few changes.

-A friend gifted me a bright blue file cabinet that was in great condition, but the blue didn’t go with my new color palette. I spray painted it white and spray painted the handles with in copper. I also spray painted my white cabinet’shardware as well as a basket that used to be yellow. The copper spray paint worked even better than I hoped!

-I spray painted an average stool I had black and reupholstered it with a leather cushion on top. Before I finished the upholstery, I decided it was way too masculine. I love brown and black together but with the thick legs of the stool it was not working. I had olive green spray paint on hand and I think it makes a big difference.

-The white Ikea pendant  gives only direct light without illuminating the room, which is okay for now since I work during the day but I wish it gave off better light. I do like the look of it though so for now, it stays!

-I would love to get that Ikea island and turn it into a new desk by putting it on casters. It would really help cutting out fabric and other items for projects and provide a great place to put leather. I have a tremendous amount of leather scraps that I am currently trying to find a storage solution for. If you have any ideas, please send them my way!

-A decorative curtain like the macrame above would be perfect for curtains! I don’t know for sure if I’ll add a rug to the space since there are always scraps on the floor, but I do love the look of a room with a rug. If I add one, it will be under the new desk!

Slowly but surely, it will all come together. I’m still working on the layout and organizing everything. So far, I’ve been gifted or found every piece of furniture in the space (current cutting table, tall cabinet, file cabinet) so it can be easy to just throw things into the room. I hope over time it evolves into an efficient space that I am inspired to be in!
