Today I am going to break down fabrics and share a fabric guide for the perfect fabrics for our sewing patterns. This is a great place to start by learning how to pair fabric choices to your own pattern choice.
For our Ada Lounge Set, this bamboo cotton knit is some of the softest fabric I’ve ever felt! You’ll notice the weight is 9 ounces, which lends to a thicker fabric and actually makes it quite simple to sew with. Of course, pick up a stretch needle to use and switch up your sewing machine settings before sewing.
We loved this bamboo cotton knit so much that we made it in the Rhodes overalls as well. The tie detail goes perfectly with the relaxed, comfortable feel of the knit!
The relaxed and lightweight feel of this light wash denim from Joann Fabrics is a perfect match with the Rhodes overalls. I feel like the denim is going to wear well over time and many washes!
This waffle stretch knit is the perfect lounge around the house fabric. This fabric in the cream is see-through so I chose to double my pattern and line it so I can still throw it on and not worry about anything showing. With the low price point, it makes it easy to buy double! Make sure you use a stretch needle here.
If you want a breezy, lightweight linen for the Betty dress, this linen gauze is perfect! Pre-wash and buy about .5-1 yard extra because it does shrink! This is perfect for summer. Note: if you aren’t lining the dress, just add a slip underneath!
This olive washed linen pairs perfectly with the Betty dress. It just gets better with each wash and linen is the perfect fabric – it’s all natural, breathable, relaxed and perfect for all seasons in my opinion!
I loved trying out a pattern in the Betty dress and this yellow cotton check was perfect. I love the look of not having it match up perfectly. If you are looking for that, buy a little extra fabric.
This olive waffle knit is the perfect weight and perfect amount of softness for your little toddler running around in the Rhodes overalls!
This chartreuse washed linen is also a perfect choice for the Ada Lounge Set!
This oversized plaid in 100% cotton is a nice fall layer for the Billie jacket.
I love this quilted olive green on the Billie jacket. It’s a great weight and color for fall! It is a cotton knit but I found it far easier to sew than any other knit!
Check the plaid section at Joann Fabrics for great options. I love this rust color I found in the store!
I’m still on the fence of what color to dye this white quilted jacket, but I love it even un-dyed! I picked it up at Harmony Provo.
I am very into corduroy at the moment and this moss green cord from a deadstock collection is perfect!
I love how classic a thick wool is in the winter. This latte boiled wool from Blackbird fabrics would be a great companion to the Billie jacket.
